DIY: Custom Concert Merchandise

Last week I went to see Tim McGraw on his Two Lanes of Freedom tour. I’m a big fan of Tim’s music, and one song on his new album really got me dancing: TRUCK YEAH!

I absolutely love everything about that song, and I knew that I was going to be really close to Tim McGraw himself since I had floor tickets! I had to do something unique to increase my chances of Tim seeing me, so I decided to make my own Truck Yeah hat!

I started out with a blank hat from Lids and some fabric-friendlly Sharpies, and sketched the design on paper.

I then drew it carefully in pencil on the blank hat, and outlined the pencil marks in blue Sharpie.

Next I filled in the block letters,

And finished off by outlining in orange!

I liked it so much that I made it in another colour too!

So, you’re wondering, was this hat enough to catch Tim McGraw’s attention? YES IT WAS! I showed it to him when he was looking into the crowd and he smiled, pointed and waved at me. TRUCK YEAH!

Check out the pictures I got of Tim McGraw - I was so close to him!

Belle Québec

Quebec City is one of the most beautiful places I’ve seen in Canada. This time around I stayed in Auberge Saint-Antoine in lower Quebec, and what a beautiful hotel it was! It is the perfect mix of modern and classic, with 17th-century artifacts displayed in bright modern ways.

It has vibrant sitting rooms and cozy little nooks with books in English and en Français, each with a modern fireplace containing wrought iron decorations.

The bedrooms are all uniquely designed and very spacious - it’s clear that the decorators had comfort and aesthetic in mind. They even have great little balconies looking out onto the surrounding area!

And the GYM is to die for! Top-of-the-line Techno Gym equipment with built-in fans, complimentary tea, coffee and apples, and a cleaning staff that comes through frequently to make sure things are all in order.

So if you’re planning a trip to Quebec, consider a stay at Auberge Saint-Antoine! It’s an experience in itself.

Have you ever been to Canada? Which city did you go visit?

How to: Wear a Vintage Hat

I can smell the salt in the air, wafting up the hill from the harbour. The sky is blue and the water even brighter in the sun - a sign that summer is on its way. The breeze is crisp as always, chilled by the sea, and sometimes I have to hold my raspberry hat to keep it from flying away. A little yellow boat drives by, and a seal pokes his head out of the waves left in its wake. Sometimes it’s good to step away from technology and take it back to the days before cellphones, laptops, coding and debugging. Just soak in the sun, breathe in the salty air.

Inspired by my vintage raspberry hat, I wore my grey jacket and old character shoes (yes, these shoes have been in many musicals and dance shows with me!). This simple three-piece outfit is an eye-catching reference to the mid 20th century! The hat adds a punch of colour, and the character shoes are just the right height to reference another era.

How would you style this hat differently?

Vintage Find: Raspberry Hat

I love vintage shopping! When it comes to vintage, I find that smaller cities have the best finds. This hat came from my favourite vintage shop, Dressed in Time in Halifax.

Stay tuned for an upcoming Look inspired by this hat!
